AND  THIS  WAS  A  ZONE  FINAL

NEVER has so much laughter and congratulatory comments, commiserations and general congeniality ever occurred between two zone President's Reserve finalists.

While Scott Bonthrone and Mark Walkden may have created history, unfortunately this is probably a one off and may never be witnessed again.

Just as the game appeared all but over, darkness had descended and threatening clouds accompanied by a light sprinkle had officials deliberating as to possibility of relocating to the lower Harbord green with overhead lighting.

This would have been the last thing on the mind of a smiling Scott Bonthrone, as he casually strolled up to assess the head.

He had been on 30 for three ends and this was his second visit.

With less than 12 months in the sport, closer inspections can frequently often present an alternative shot, a possible a tip from his coach.

Keeping in mind "Rocket" Jones was very eloquent and a tad more than helpful in his capacity of marker.

Meanwhile, Mark who was defending his 2018 title, had been left stranded 27 when the scores were lock and consumed 31 ends.

As Scott only scored singles on his way up the springboard to reach the magic 30, Mark was understandably quite anxious.

Sure enough his break came with a two, followed by a single and at 30-all they were both back to square one.

In that unforgettable end, other than the jack, everything else on the rink moved.

With the game done and dusted, camaraderie prevailed in post game celebrations.

FINAL SCORE: SCOTT BONTHRONE 31 def. MARK WALKDEN 30
