2019 Zone 9 Veterans Side

After a terrific two days of high-quality bowls, the Zone 9 Side has fallen just short of bringing home the trophy at the 2019 Veterans (Over 70s) Interzone held at The Greens The Entrance BC (Zone 15).

Facing the hosts in the Final, the 'Niners' were slow to start, trailing 3/12 after 9 ends and 13/24 after 23 ends, before a comeback saw them trail 25/27 near the halfway mark.  From thereon Zone 15 dominated, surging ahead to complete a relatively comfortable win 59/44 on the back of one dominant rink performance.

Earlier, the Zone 9 Side emerged victorious 61/55 in a must-win Round 3 match against Zone 2 (Newcastle), a side featuring former and current Australian players amongst their skips.  It was fluctuating match where both sides enjoyed mini-breaks before the other would challenge.

A special note for the rink of Chris Eng, Graham Lewis, Bob Hawtree and Roger Manning who went through the event undefeated, recording solid 29/14, 20/19, 22/15 and 21/16 wins.

On the back of the Zone 9 Senior Side winning the State Seniors Interzone in May, this result in the Veterans Interzone caps off a tremendous year for our representative sides and augurs well for the years ahead.
