There was mixed success for our Zone 9 bowlers as the knock-out rounds began at the 2019 Australian Open on the Gold Coast.

Belrose's Steve Gliddon and Alan McMaster both won their opening post-sectional match in the Men's Singles on Saturday but lost in the second round, with Steve losing narrowly 19-21.  These are still great achievements when one considers over 1000 bowlers entered the Singles and 256 made the knock-out rounds.

In today's play, Steve and Alan failed to progress beyond the first post-sectional round of the Men's Pairs while the duo of Adam Yager (West Pymble) & Arthur Foy (Asquith) narrowly won their first match 17-16 before going down 14-21 in the next round.

In the Over-60's Men's Pairs, Harbord's Steve Nugent and Graham Tetstall finished second in their section with a 10-19 loss, an 18-12 win and a 15-15 draw but did not qualify for the knock-out rounds.  Called in as a last-minute replacement, Crawford Linton (Belrose) and partner qualified for the post-sectional rounds after winning their section despite a final round loss to former Bulls team-mate, Steve (Snake) Halmai.  Crawford is in action tomorrow at Helensvale BC.
