METRO GRADE 1 - Round 12

Mark Alexander, Sunday, 28 April 2019

The Belrose Bulls, hoping to bounce back from their narrow loss to Cabramatta yesterday, travelled away to take on the Merrylands Magic but  suffered a disappointing 51-67 (0-10) loss to a Magic outfit seeking to restore their reputation as one of the powerhouses of the Grade 1 competition.  The rinks of Matt Blackburn (17-19) and Crawford Linton (19-21) had narrow losses while Brad Franklin's rink went down (15-27) to former Belrose and Zone 9 star Steve Rawlings.

The Harbord Hawks were more than competitive in the opening exchanges of their match against the Mt Lewis Lions, in fact taking a surprise  30-28 lead near the half-way point.  However, the Lions roared back to dominate the second half of the match and the Hawks went down 48-70 (1-9) to complete a disappointing weekend.  Mark Alexander's rink continued a run of good performances with a come-from-behind win (18-17) over former Australian representative Wayne Turley.  The rinks of Paul Leckey (14-28) and Terry Warder (16-25) found it tough against quality opposition, going down to former Zone 9 and NSW representative Nathan Wise and former Australian representative Kelvin Kerkow respectively.
