METRO GRADE 1 - Round 5

Mark Alexander, Saturday, 6 April 2019

The Belrose Bulls continued their impressive season to date with another come-from-behind victory, 61-55 (9-1), over the powerful Mt Lewis Lions.  In another great team effort, the rinks of Matt Blackburn (23-18) and Brad Franklin (24-19) enjoyed solid wins over rinks skipped by Nathan Wise and Kelvin Kerkow respectively while in a tussle of great mates, Crawford Linton's rink had a narrow loss (14-18) to Wayne Turley.  As the competition pauses for the Australian Sides Championships at Ettalong Memorial BC next week, the Bulls find themselves at the top of the table with excellent prospects of making the State Finals.

The Harbord Hawks struggled from the outset up against a classy Taren Point outfit and never really threatened in suffering a comprehensive loss, 35-78 (0-10).  The rinks of Paul Leckey (7-31) and Terry Warder (9-27) found it tough going all match while Mark Alexander's team almost snatched a point for the Hawks with a gutsy one-shot loss (19-20) to current Australian representative Barry Lester, with the match ultimately decided on the last bowl of the day.
