METRO GRADE 1 - Round 3

Mark Alexander, Monday, 25 March 2019

In matches featuring remarkably similar scorelines, the Belrose Bulls and the Harbord Hawks enjoyed sensational away wins in Saturday's Round 3 of the Metropolitan Grade 1 competition.

The Belrose Bulls continued their unbeaten start to the season with a fantastic 63-60 (8.5-1.5) victory over the powerful St Johns Park Devils.  The win was spear-headed by Brad Franklin's rink with an impressive win (28-17) over Australian representative Ben Twist while the rinks of Crawford Linton (19-19) and Matt Blackburn (16-24) contributed to an outstanding team effort in taking the big-board.

The Harbord Hawks, coming off two losses at home and playing away to the strong Engadine Cougars, were looking for some inspiration and it came in the form of a 'never-say-die' team effort that saw the Hawks rally from being 25-45 down past the half-way stage to come home strongly to win 61-56 (8.5-1.5).  Paul Leckey's rink (25-13) lead the way winning 9 of their last 10 ends while the rinks of Terry Warder (19-19) and Mark Alexander (17-24) closed out their matches with scores on their last few ends to carry the overall score.

There is a double-header this coming weekend with Belrose and Harbord both at home on Saturday with the Bulls taking on Taren Point and the Hawks up against Penrith while Sunday sees both Clubs on the road, the Bulls up against Grandviews and the Hawks playing St Johns Park.
