METRO GRADE 1 - Round 1

Mark Alexander, Monday, 11 March 2019

There were contrasting fortunes for Zone 9's two participants in the Metropolitan Grade 1 competition which kicked off along with all Pennant Grades on Saturday 9th March.

After the long trek south to Engadine, the Belrose Bulls caused the first boilover of the season with a fantastic 64-50 (9-1) victory over the strong home side who surely would have looked at this game as one in the bank.  Brad Franklin (27-15) and Matt Blackburn (20-13) enjoyed outstanding rink wins while Crawford Linton had a narrow loss (17-22) to gun NSW representative David Ferguson.

The Harbord Hawks, playing at home against Wentworthville Leagues, found it tough going and despite being competitive were ultimately out-classed in going down 45-70 (0-10).  The rinks of Mark Alexander (17-20) and Paul Leckey (19-25) were in their matches to the last end while Terry Warder (9-25) had a tough afternoon.

Both Belrose and Harbord are at home in Round 2 with the Bulls taking on Penrith and the Hawks up against Northmead.
