The Dee Why team of Monique Crawshay & Paul Somers today won the 2011 Mixed Pairs Challenge by defeating Joan Wilson & Carl Perry (Asquith) 19 shots to 14 at the final played at Pittwater Memorial.

The match was fought out to the last end. On the second last end, with Joan/Carl two shots behind, they were holding two when Monique moved the jack to be three up, subsequently reduced to 1 up by Carl. Monique and Paul went into the last end three up, and were down three shots when Paul drew the shot. In trying to remove his bowl the jack was moved and Monique and Paul scored 2 giving an overall score of 19/14.

Earlier in this mornings semis, Carl Perry & his partner Joan defeated last years winner Barney Flanagan & partner Daphna Obach and Paul and Monique were too good for Ken Emura and his wife. The scoreline in both games was 19/17.

NSWWBA Mid North Shore District President Sue O'Keefe was on hand to congratulate both winners & runners-up and to present the prizemoney. Thanks to Pittwater for staging the event, and particular thanks to Bruce Smith CEO, Ray Smith, Umpire, Bill McCoy, Pittwater Controlling Body, and to Casey Jones, overall organiser.

Today's event is the last on this year's Zone calendar except for the Academy side match against Zone 10 to be played on 20th  November. However, the remainder of the State Championships are still to come.
